Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (LAM) has announced it is reducing fares on its domestic routes from between 5 and 77 percent from Thursday.
The carrier said in a statement that the biggest fare cuts are on the short hop between the city of Inhambane and the coastal tourist resort of Vilanculos in a move to attract more visitors.
“These fares are made possible by the acquisition of new aircraft with lower operating costs,” LAM said. Last December the airline replaced its 30-seat BA Jetstream 41 jetliner with two Bombardier Q-400 aircraft with capacity for 72 passengers on routes between the capital and Chimoi and Vilanculos.
LAM awaits delivery later this year of two 94-seat Embraer 190s and will receive another Bombardier Q-400 and Embraer 190 from 2010 to 2011.
The Mozambican flag flyer also plans to introduce lower fares to Johannesburg, Durban, Harare, Dar es Salaam and Nairobi. (macauhub)
