Honor Flights Planned

Southern Minnesota veterans are encouraging fellow soldiers to make a trip to the nation's capitol.

Local World War 2 vets are getting the chance to sign up for the next "Honor Flight."

The one-day trip to Washington, DC includes a visit to their memorial.

On Sunday afternoon representatives from the local honor flight chapter stopped in Albert Lea and Austin.

They're signing vets up, and trying to raise money for the flights.

Fundraising is important since the Vets fly for free.

Peter Mathias with the Southeast Minnesota Honor Flight said "it costs us $85,000 every time we take off, so we need to raise some money to continue these flights."

Southern Minnesota vets are making their next trip in May.
