new flights from Birmingham to Greece and Saudi Arabia

New flights linking Birmingham with Greece and the Middle East have been launched in a bid to boost both tourism and business connections.

Going forward, Hellenic Imperial Airways will operate one flight from Birmingham Airport to Athens.

From the historic Greek capital, onward flights to Jeddah Saudi Arabia have also been introduced, with business leaders and tourism chiefs welcoming this new direct link between the Midlands and the Middle East.

Announcing the development, Talal Abureya, chairman of Hellenic Imperial Airways, said: "Birmingham is our first UK airport and we are very excited about launching services in the Midlands.

"Athens, which is our headquarters, is not currently served from Birmingham so we expect that our flights will be welcomed by those travelling for business and leisure, in particular those visiting friends and relative."

Alongside this latest service, regular flights to Dubai from Birmingham are currently offered by Emirates, while Mahan Air flies to the Iranian capital of Tehran.
