Edinburgh flights

Flybe has reported that demand for flights to Edinburgh is 'stronger than ever this year' as the city hosts its annual celebration of culture.

Almost 95,000 passengers are set to fly to and from the Scottish capital with the regional carrier during the month of August, an increase of 8% on last year.

With 17 direct flights to Edinburgh, Flybe claims to offer three times more services to the destination than any other airline.

This summer, the operator will provide up to 226 flights a day in and around Scotland, some of which will be operated by Loganair, its franchise partner.

Mike Rutter, Flybe's chief commercial officer, said: 'Our seasonal passenger numbers clearly indicate that people are determined to enjoy a UK summer … by seeking out the most convenient and affordable way to travel, especially to the really big annual events such as the Edinburgh Festival.'

The festival will begin tomorrow (14 August) and present various opera, theatre, music and visual arts events in the city up to 6 September.
